Connecticut comes from an Algonkian word "quinetucket." Quinetucket means besides the long and tidal river. The state is found in the northeastern part of the country and borders Massachusetts to the north, long island on its south, Rhode Island on its east, and on its south is the state of New York. Initially, Connecticut was an agriculturally focused state. However, Connecticut residents evolved their livelihoods to start textile and machinery manufacture.
On January 9, 1788, Connecticut became one of the union's states with its capital as Hartford. Connecticut's state has earned itself various nicknames such as the constitution state due to the total order, a constitution adopted by American colonies. Other nicknames are the land of steady habits, nutmeg state, and provisions state.
The Ansonia Main post office is one of the earliest post offices in Connecticut. Its construction ended in 1914 and was one of Oscar Wende Roth's sophisticated designs. It is a classical revival architectural building accentuated by a low hip roof, a recessed center entrance, and a smooth limestone finish.
Its interior is quite eye-catching as it has a white terrazzo marble finish combined with wooden trims. This post office is NRHP (national register of historic places) listed.
Another historically significant post office is the Bridgeport Main Post office, designed by Louis A Simon. The three-story building houses exquisite sculptures and drawings, especially Lambden's murals in the lobby.
